New bridge over Breiðholtsbraut opens

A new bridge spanning Breiðholtsbraut is now operational, marking a significant improvement for local traffic flow. The opening occurred yesterday morning, coinciding with the activation of new traffic lights at the crucial intersection of Arnarnesvegur and Breiðholtsbraut.

In addition to the bridge, traffic accessing Vatnsendahverfi will now be temporarily rerouted via the new bridge and Arnarnesvegur. Furthermore, a section of Arnarnesvegur between Breiðholtsbraut and Vatnsendavegur has been opened, alongside a new segment of Vatnsendavegur connecting Arnarnesvegur to Vatnsendahverfi.

The opening of the new bridge proceeded smoothly, according to Sigríður Inga Sigurðardóttir, a spokesperson for the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration. Concurrently, the intersection at Vatnsendahverfi and Breiðholtsbraut has been closed, with its traffic lights removed. This intersection is slated for a redesign and is expected to reopen in a modified form later this autumn.
