New camera app uses AI to critique photos and offer editing advice

Adobe is leveraging generative AI to assist mobile users in capturing better photos with its experimental camera app, "Project Indigo." The latest update introduces "AI Playground," a suite of features designed to provide real-time photographic feedback and editing capabilities.

A standout feature within AI Playground is "Photo Guidance." After a photo is taken, users can activate this function, and a large language model will analyze the image. It then provides a breakdown of what works well and areas for improvement, offering concrete suggestions for either retaking the shot or editing it post-capture.

This tool aims to democratize photography skills, offering step-by-step guidance to users who may lack confidence in their abilities. Beyond analysis, AI Playground also enables users to perform various editing tasks directly within the app, such as object removal and style modification.

The "Project Indigo" app, developed by the Adobe Nextcam team, offers manual controls and an SLR-like aesthetic. Version 1.1.0 is now available on the App Store, supporting a range of iPhone and iPad models. Adobe recommends using an iPhone 15 Pro or newer for the best experience.
