New Direct Flight Route Between Taichung and Chengdu to Launch July 28

Taichung International Airport is set to expand its international connectivity with the introduction of a new direct flight route to Chengdu, China, operated by Zhejiang Loong Air. The service is scheduled to commence on July 28, offering travelers a more convenient way to journey between central Taiwan and the Sichuan province.

The new route will operate twice weekly, with flights departing from Taichung on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The airline will utilize an A320-200 aircraft for this service. This expansion follows the recent addition of other international routes, bringing the total number of scheduled and charter flights from Taichung to approximately 30, connecting to destinations in China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and Hong Kong/Macau.

Taichung International Airport has seen a steady increase in passenger traffic since the pandemic. With the addition of new routes, the airport anticipates its total passenger volume for the year will exceed pre-pandemic levels. To accommodate future growth, the Civil Aeronautics Administration initiated the "Taichung International Airport 2045 Comprehensive Plan" last year, which includes provisions for a third terminal and aircraft maintenance areas.

The direct flights to Chengdu are expected to enhance travel convenience for residents in Taiwan's central region, particularly for those wishing to explore the scenic beauty of areas like Jiuzhaigou. Taiwan Tianji Company will serve as the ground handling agent for the new route.
