New education centre opens in Sabeto

Young people in Sabeto, Fiji, will now have enhanced access to Islamic education and vocational training with the opening of a new $2.2 million facility. The Islamic Education and Vocational Centre, established by the Fiji Muslim League, aims to equip the youth with essential skills for the evolving workforce.

This new center replaces the League's previous education facility, which was tragically destroyed by fire in 2019. The modern complex integrates religious education with practical vocational training, designed to prepare students for future employment opportunities.

While the center has officially opened, the Fiji Muslim League is actively seeking further funding. They require between $200,000 and $250,000 to support their vocational training programs. This funding is crucial for acquiring necessary equipment for trades such as auto-electrical, plumbing, and carpentry, as well as for completing remaining construction work, including the installation of air conditioning and the finalization of office spaces.

The project was made possible through generous donations from the Fijian diaspora and supporters of the League, with contributions received from countries including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. A significant donation of $250,000 USD came from an individual in San Francisco.

The opening of the center coincides with the Fiji Muslim League's centennial celebration, marking 100 years of service. The facility stands as a testament to the League's commitment to community development and education.
