New exceptional world record for Živa Remic

Sixteen-year-old Slovenian track and field athlete Živa Remic has achieved a remarkable feat, breaking the U18 world record in the 800 meters. Competing at a meet in Pfungstadt, Germany, Remic clocked an impressive 1:59.64, marking her first time running the distance under two minutes.

In her first race of the summer season, Remic secured second place behind Germany's Majtie Kolberg, who finished with a time of 1:58.67. Kolberg, 26, is a seasoned athlete, having placed fifth at the European Championships and reaching the semifinals of the Olympic Games in Paris. Remic, a decade younger, made history as only the fourth Slovenian woman to break the two-minute barrier in the 800 meters outdoors, joining the ranks of Jolanda Čeplak, Brigita Langerholc Žager, and Anita Horvat.

This achievement adds to Remic's already impressive list of accolades. She holds national records in her age categories for distances ranging from 400 to 1000 meters. Earlier this year, she also set a European indoor best for junior women with a time of 2:00.73 in Ostrava.

Her coach, Gregor Grad, expressed confidence in Remic's potential, stating that the German meet was an ideal choice for her competitive season's start. The primary goals for the season include the European U18 Championships in Rieti and the World U20 Championships in Eugene, USA, where Remic aims to be "as fresh, motivated, confident, and ready as possible to show what she has built through long months of training."
