New GNA board to strengthen agency’s strategic direction

The Ghana News Agency has a new eight-member board, and its mandate goes beyond routine administration. The board is expected to shape the agency’s strategic direction, protect its editorial independence and strengthen public accountability.

Dr Kwame Akuffo Anoff-Ntow chairs the board. Its members are Albert Kofi Owusu, Mercy Catherine Adjabeng, Francis Dadzie Jnr, Professor Adwoa Sikayena Amankwah, Dr Moshie-Dayan Ahiamenyo, Vance Azu and Alexander Nii Katey Bannerman.

At the inauguration, National Media Commission Chairperson Professor Akua Opokua Britwum praised the GNA for continuing to provide accurate and honest news despite rapid changes in digital media. She also credited the agency with promoting Ghanaian culture and democratic values among Ghanaians abroad, while expanding its regional presence across the country.

Britwum thanked the outgoing board for introducing policies that supported the agency’s development and urged the new members to continue that work. Anoff-Ntow said the board would serve with diligence and integrity, working as a team to provide the oversight and policy direction needed to shape the organisation’s future.

Outgoing Chairperson Nana Sifa Twum said the previous board had left a solid foundation. GNA General Manager Albert Kofi Owusu described the agency as a credible source for media organisations, public institutions and the wider public. He also pointed to misinformation and disinformation as growing challenges, saying journalism must remain anchored in accuracy and credibility.
