New Hung Yen club launches with ambitions to become a force in Vietnamese football

Hung Yen has entered professional football with a new club and an immediate target of finishing among the top three in the 2026-27 National First Division.

The provincial government held the club’s launch and departure ceremony on Sept. 4. Hung Yen FC completed its takeover from PVF-CAND Youth, with KBC Hung Yen Joint Stock Company now managing the team. Former The Cong-Viettel player Nguyen Hai Bien serves as executive director.

The club has registered 28 players. Most came from the PVF-CAND Youth side that finished sixth in the previous National First Division season, while several new players joined during the transfer market.

The squad includes former Vietnam national goalkeeper Huynh Tuan Linh and former national-team midfielder Mac Hong Quan. It also features Vietnam under-23 defenders Nguyen Manh Hung and Tran Hai Anh, along with under-23 striker Nguyen Dang Duong.

Bui Doan Quang Huy, who has extensive V-League experience, will coach the team. Hung Yen says it will assess the situation before deciding whether to pursue promotion to the V-League for the 2027-28 season. Its longer-term ambition is to build a powerful Vietnamese football club, bring pride to Hung Yen and develop young players from the under-13 level.
