New Identities: What Changes from August 3 - When Old Ones Cease to Be Valid

The countdown has begun for Greece's new identity cards, with a significant transition set to occur on August 3. On this date, the older blue-colored Greek IDs will no longer be recognized as valid travel documents outside of Greece. This marks a crucial step in the country's modernization of identification documents.

While the old blue IDs will lose their travel validity next month, they will remain in circulation for domestic use until September 2027. After this date, these existing cards will be completely invalidated and will not be accepted for any official transactions between citizens and the Greek administration.
