New Lithuanian tool 'HeyPolo' helps families track loved ones' locations and stay connected

In response to growing concerns over missing persons, Lithuanian tech innovators have developed a new mobile application designed to enhance family safety. The app, named "HeyPolo," allows users to monitor the real-time location of family members directly from their phones.

"We have created a phone application that already allows you to check a family member's location at any time on your phone and thus know where they are at this very moment," explained Edvinas Šeršniovas, head of the "HeyPolo" team. This initiative addresses the widespread anxiety many feel regarding the safety of children and elderly parents in Lithuania, where police reported approximately 500 missing children annually in 2025.

The "HeyPolo" app offers several features to provide peace of mind. Users can see family members' locations on a map in real-time and receive "arrival" and "departure" notifications, such as when a teenager reaches school or a spouse leaves work. A crucial addition is the SOS button, which enables users to instantly alert all connected family members if they encounter an emergency.

Developed within the Surfshark group, a Lithuanian cybersecurity firm, "HeyPolo" prioritizes user data privacy. Family members decide how much information they share with each other, and user data is not transmitted to third parties, distinguishing it from many other mobile applications. The team, comprising about 30 Lithuanian and Polish IT engineers, is working on adding more functionalities, including the ability to call or message family members even if their phone is in silent, airplane, or sleep mode. Šeršniovas expressed ambition for the tool to become a "calling card" for Lithuania as a technology country and a daily utility for families worldwide.

When you cannot contact them and have no idea where they are, the wait often turns into anxiety. Technologies can already be employed to solve this problem, and our team has taken on doing that.
