New Online Scam Promises Subscription Cancellation, Seeks Bank Details

A sophisticated online scam is circulating, targeting unsuspecting individuals with deceptive emails that mimic legitimate subscription cancellation notices. The fraudulent messages, which have been reported by several internet users on Saturday, August 1st, claim to offer the recipient the option to cancel a subscription to "Cellcast videos" or receive a refund.

The emails are designed to appear personalized, often including the recipient's name, address, or even their IBAN. This level of detail is intended to build trust and trick the victim into believing the message is genuine. The scam's core objective is to phish for sensitive banking information.

Recipients are instructed to provide their bank card details to proceed with the cancellation or refund for a supposed 49.90 euro contract with a fictitious platform. This tactic preys on people's desire to avoid unwanted charges and their tendency to act quickly when presented with such offers, especially when personal information seems to be involved.

Authorities are warning the public to be extremely cautious of such unsolicited emails. It is crucial to verify the legitimacy of any subscription or refund offer directly with the service provider through official channels, rather than relying on information provided in suspicious emails.
