New Rector Appointed for Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences

Susanne Borkowski has been officially appointed as the new Rector of the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, marking a significant transition for the institution. Science Minister Armin Willingmann announced the appointment, with Borkowski set to assume her responsibilities on September 1st.

The 53-year-old leader will hold the position for a four-year term, during which she will oversee the academic and administrative affairs for approximately 5,300 students and nearly 600 employees. Borkowski brings valuable experience to the role, having previously served as the Pro-Rector for Studies, Teaching, and International Affairs.

Her appointment follows a second successful election by the Academic Senate in July, after the initial election in February was invalidated due to formal errors. Borkowski succeeds Manuela Schwartz, who has led the university since 2022.

As Rector, Borkowski has outlined key priorities including the enhancement of flexible educational pathways, the promotion of research and knowledge transfer, and the advancement of digitalization and internationalization efforts within the university. Her leadership is expected to guide the institution in these critical areas.
