New rules require review for books on Vietnamese leaders and history

Vietnam has introduced new regulations for book publishing, requiring a mandatory manuscript appraisal for works focusing on national leaders and historical events. Article 24 of the new Law on Publishing stipulates that any book or material dealing with revolutionary history, national sovereignty, security, national leaders, or heroes must undergo a formal review process.

This appraisal must be organized by the publishing house itself before the manuscript can be released to the public. The new rule aims to ensure the content aligns with the state's narrative and historical interpretations, particularly concerning sensitive topics like national identity and leadership.
