New SLTB depot complex opens in Kegalle

A new, expansive depot complex for the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) was inaugurated in Kegalle on August 14, 2026. The state-of-the-art facility represents a significant investment, costing 835 million Sri Lankan rupees.

The Kegalle depot is designed to be a comprehensive hub, housing the SLTB's Sabaragamuwa regional office and a driving training school. It also includes essential services such as a branch of the National Transport Medical Institute, an auditorium, a fleet operations unit, and modern rest areas for employees. The administrative complex is complemented by a spacious cafeteria.

Further enhancing its functionality, the complex boasts a substantial bus garage capable of accommodating a large number of buses. Additionally, an on-site fuel station has been established to serve the SLTB fleet. The facility is also equipped with a modern bus repair workshop, featuring up-to-date amenities and equipment to ensure the maintenance and upkeep of the buses.

The opening of this new depot signifies an upgrade in infrastructure for public transportation in the Kegalle region, aiming to improve operational efficiency and provide better facilities for both staff and services.
