New Taipei Candidate Pledges Competition-Grade Skatepark

New Taipei City mayoral candidate Lee Shih-chuan visited the PoolPool Skateboarding Club in Wugu on Saturday, engaging with skateboarding culture and pledging to build a world-class venue for enthusiasts. Guided by skateboarding veteran Wang Tian-lin, known as the 'godfather of skateboarding,' Lee experienced the sport firsthand.

Lee emphasized skateboarding's Olympic status as a symbol of youth challenging themselves. He vowed to establish a professional skateboarding facility that meets international competition standards, aiming to lift local athletes beyond practicing under bridges and onto the global stage. This initiative builds on the current administration's efforts under Mayor Hou Yu-ih to promote street culture.

Skateboarding is already an official Olympic event, representing the spirit of youth daring to challenge and pursue self-breakthrough. I promise to establish a professional skateboarding venue that meets international competition standards in the future, allowing New Taipei skateboarding athletes to bid farewell to the predicament of 'only being able to practice under bridges' and connect with international competitions to leap onto the world stage.

Wang shared his experience of organizing a street skateboarding event in New Taipei City, which required extensive coordination for street closures. Lee, drawing on his own experience with event coordination, expressed a firm commitment to creating a safe and comprehensive platform for skateboarders in New Taipei, supporting their dreams.

Lee's pledge to build an international-standard venue aims to provide a solid foundation for New Taipei's skateboarding community, allowing them to pursue their passion safely and joyfully. He highlighted his engineering background as an asset in realizing this project.
