New Taipei City opens 'Golden Waterfront' cycling path in Tamsui for elevated sea views

New Taipei City has unveiled a new elevated cycling path in Tamsui, offering a unique "high-angle" perspective of the sea and sky. The "Golden Waterfront Observation Long Embankment Cycling Path," constructed by the city's Riverfront Management Office, allows cyclists and pedestrians to enjoy stunning sunset views over the ocean, overcoming the visual limitations of previous sea dikes.

Mayor Hou Yu-ih inaugurated the 1.1-kilometer path on the 15th, praising the engineering team for overcoming construction difficulties in a coastal restricted zone. He emphasized the path's importance in connecting northern Taiwan's waterfront lifestyle areas. The project is part of a larger 585 million New Taiwan dollar initiative to upgrade an 11-kilometer stretch of the sea dike from Guandu to the New Town area. The elevated section alone cost approximately 200 million New Taiwan dollars.

The design, centered around the concept of the "sea-skyline," features a 3-meter wide independent cycle lane built atop the sea dike. This design ensures ample riding space, separates cyclists from pedestrians for safety, and incorporates multiple viewing points. These spots allow riders and walkers to fully appreciate the sea waves and the beauty of the twilight without obstruction.

The path is situated within a coastal restricted zone, and its operating hours are from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The city encourages visitors to be mindful of these times when planning their trips to enjoy the scenic coastal views.
