New Taipei City poll shows Johnny Chiang leading; campaign says focus is on policy

Johnny Chiang, a candidate for New Taipei City mayor, is leading in a recent poll conducted by the Kuomintang's city party headquarters, with a 7% advantage over his opponent. The campaign office stated that while polls serve as a reference, their focus remains on policy and engaging with constituents.

According to the campaign office spokesperson, Wu Liang-hsien, Chiang's support has seen a significant increase, particularly among women and undecided voters. Wu attributed this to the positive reception of Chiang's policy proposals, which cover areas such as childcare, elder care, and dental health for all ages. Chiang plans to continue visiting various districts to gather public opinion and incorporate these needs into his platform.

The campaign emphasized Chiang's commitment to building upon the existing infrastructure development initiated by current Mayor Hou Yu-ih. Specific initiatives mentioned include strengthening medical capacity in underserved districts like Luzhou and Tucheng, and advancing major transportation projects such as the Dahan River MRT Line and the Danbei Expressway. These plans are part of a broader strategy to position New Taipei City for future growth, with a vision of a "southern mega-dome city and northern science city."
