New Taipei Mayor Visits Taoyuan Mayor for Smart City, Regional Cooperation Insights

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih visited Taoyuan City Mayor Chang San-cheng for a policy exchange, focusing on smart city initiatives and regional collaboration. Hou expressed a desire to learn from Taoyuan's successful experiences to inform future development in New Taipei City.

During their meeting, Hou and Chang engaged in in-depth discussions covering smart city development, digital governance, child and maternal care, and regional cooperation. Hou highlighted New Taipei City's commitment to integrating technology to improve residents' lives, aiming to enhance traffic, safety, healthcare, and public services through AI and digital tools.

Chang shared Taoyuan's achievements in smart transportation, including AI-powered traffic signal control and emergency vehicle priority systems, which have helped address traffic congestion and public safety issues. The mayors also exchanged views on regional development, particularly the "Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli Silicon Valley Plan." Hou emphasized the strong connections between Taoyuan and Hsinchu in industry, talent, and living circles, advocating for closer regional cooperation to link technological industries, transportation infrastructure, and living amenities.

New Taipei City has the most important technology industry cluster in the country. We must not only develop the technology industry but also let technology truly improve people's lives.

Hou also underscored the importance of child and maternal welfare, noting that New Taipei City is one of the youngest municipalities in Taiwan. She aims to create an environment where young people are encouraged to start families and raise children, drawing inspiration from Taoyuan's pioneering efforts in establishing a dedicated bureau for women and children's development.

Taoyuan has established the first Women and Children Development Bureau in the country and integrated women and children care resources. Its experience is worth considering for New Taipei City's future policy planning.
