New twist in attempted murder case as victim’s former wife arrested in courtroom

The former wife of a 38-year-old man seriously wounded in a September 2025 shooting was arrested inside the courtroom shortly before she was due to testify, bringing a new twist to the case in Drosia, Attica.

The attack was captured on video, and the victim remains in hospital fighting for his life. The woman, who is Romanian, had previously been married to the victim and later had a relationship with the 29-year-old man accused of carrying out the attack. A complaint accusing her of moral instigation had been pending, although she had not initially been prosecuted on that basis.

The complaint had been filed because no prosecution was initially brought against her as a moral instigator, so we filed a separate complaint, which remained pending at the Drosia police station. They looked for her but could not find her. They found her today at the court because she came unconcerned, believing the case file had been closed.

Police entered the courtroom in the morning and handcuffed her as she was preparing to speak as a witness. Kiki Pakirtzidou, the victim’s family lawyer, said officers had been looking for her after the family filed a separate complaint at the Drosia police station. She said the woman appeared unconcerned and attended the hearing with her mother, believing the case file had been closed.

The lawyer described the exchange before the arrest. When the woman said, “I am a witness,” the officer replied, “You cannot remain here any longer and you must come with me.” The woman has denied any role in the attack. In earlier comments to the Live News programme, she said others were deliberately trying to implicate her to prevent the real causes of the shooting from being revealed. She said she knew nothing about the attack and had neither caused nor encouraged it.

The shooting took place on September 30, 2025. The victim identified the man who targeted him, and police arrested the 29-year-old several days later. He initially denied involvement, then confessed and was remanded in custody. Although the attacker’s face was covered in the video, the victim said he recognized him as his former wife’s partner. The defendant initially claimed he had been working in a restaurant kitchen on Zakynthos when the attack occurred, with witnesses able to support his account. The woman’s arrest and the continuing case file now place the alleged roles of all those involved under renewed scrutiny.
