New Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Appointed

President Lee Jae-myung appointed Nam Jae-heon as the new Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries on May 21. Nam Jae-heon currently heads the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Arctic Route Promotion Headquarters.

Presidential spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung described the new Vice Minister as a "leading port expert" with strong execution and problem-solving skills. Nam has a distinguished career within the ministry, having previously served as the Director General of Maritime Affairs and the head of the Busan North Port Integrated Development Promotion Team.

Kang highlighted Nam's role as the first head of the Arctic Route Promotion Headquarters, where he is credited with establishing the foundation for Arctic shipping routes, including the enactment of the Arctic Route Special Act, and fostering the development of 'ocean cities.'
