New York City: Hundreds choose the best Zohran Mamdani look-alike

Roberto Fusca won $100 after hundreds of people chose him as the most convincing look-alike of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. He beat eight other contestants at Sunday’s event.

The competitors leaned into Mamdani’s public image. Several wore brown suits resembling one the real mayor wore during his 2025 campaign. Others added red-and-black patterned ties and silver rings. One contestant appeared shirtless but wore an apron, a reference to a rap music video Mamdani made in 2019.

The contestants also had to answer a question about their favorite pizza. The winner was decided by the volume of the audience’s applause.

Mamdani, 34, describes himself as a socialist and has attracted a large social-media following since taking office in January 2026. His agenda includes affordable housing in New York. In June, he secured a rent freeze covering about one million apartments.
