New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a significant investment of nearly $26 million to modernize water and sewer infrastructure in Washington County. The funding is earmarked for two key projects designed to tackle long-standing issues with wastewater treatment capacity and remove obstacles to regional growth.

According to the state government, the initiative will focus on upgrading sanitation infrastructure and expanding the capacity of treatment plants. These improvements are considered essential for advancing new residential and commercial projects in the area. Specifically, in Fort Edward, the project involves renovating wastewater and drainage infrastructure. In Kingsbury and Hudson Falls, the funds will finance the separation of storm drainage from the sewer system. This measure is intended to prevent large volumes of rainwater from overwhelming treatment plants during storms, thereby reducing pressure on facilities and mitigating the risk of overflows.
