New York offers up to $25,000 to farmers impacted by federal tariffs

New York farmers facing financial hardship due to federal tariffs have until August 11 to apply for significant financial relief. Governor Kathy Hochul announced that eligible residents can receive payments ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 through the Tariffs Against Agricultural Resilience Program.

The program, funded with $30 million, aims to compensate local farmers for increased costs and market losses incurred in 2025. These losses are attributed to the tariff policies enacted by the administration of former President Donald Trump.

New York Commissioner of Agriculture Richard A. Ball noted the program's positive reception but urged all eligible farmers to apply. "We have seen an excellent response to this program from the agricultural community, but we want to ensure that all eligible farmers take advantage of this opportunity," he said. Applicants must submit a general application, provide details on agricultural sales or milk production, and meet specific income and agricultural criteria.
