New Zealand flanker Segner ruled out of rest of South Africa tour

New Zealand flanker Anton Segner has been ruled out of the rest of the All Blacks' tour of South Africa after undergoing ankle surgery. The German-born player was a late withdrawal from the first test match after experiencing a swollen ankle, which was subsequently diagnosed as acute inflammatory arthritis.

Coach Dave Rennie confirmed Segner's tour-ending injury, stating that the player would travel with the team to Cape Town but would not participate in any further matches. "He'll come with us to Cape Town but he won't take part in the rest of the tour," Rennie told reporters following the team's 41-35 victory over the Lions.

Rennie indicated that no replacements would be called up to the squad. He expressed confidence that the existing loose forwards in the team are sufficient to cover for Segner's absence during the three remaining tests in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Baltimore. The All Blacks have remained undefeated on their tour thus far, securing wins against four provincial teams and achieving a notable 33-16 upset victory over the Springboks.
