Next 2026 F1 Race: When to Watch the Miami GP After Season Hiatus

The 2026 Formula 1 season, which experienced an unexpected and forced pause, is gearing up for a return. The Grand Prix of Miami, scheduled for the first weekend of May, will mark the resumption of racing after the cancellations of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix.

These cancellations were a direct consequence of the escalating conflict in the Middle East, which extended to involve several countries in the region. The Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) deemed it too dangerous to race in the affected areas and cited significant logistical challenges for the 11 teams and 22 drivers in reaching the circuits.

The Miami International Autodrome will host the sixth round of the season. The event's schedule runs from Friday, May 1st, to Sunday, May 3rd, and notably includes a sprint race. This format means teams and drivers will have only one practice session before qualifying and the main competition begins.

The Miami GP, a relatively new addition to the calendar since 2022, has already seen exciting races, with Max Verstappen taking two victories, Lando Norris one, and Oscar Piastri the most recent winner.

Currently, 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes leads the drivers' standings with 72 points, followed by his teammate George Russell. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton are third and fourth, respectively. In the constructors' championship, Mercedes leads with 135 points, ahead of Ferrari with 90. Argentine driver Franco Colapinto of Alpine has also made his mark, securing his first point of the season.
