Next-Generation Toyota Corolla to Feature New Platform, Diverse Hybrid and EV Options

Toyota is gearing up for a significant redesign of its globally popular Corolla model, with the next-generation vehicle slated to debut next year. This upcoming iteration is anticipated to be built on Toyota's newly developed, dedicated electric vehicle platform, which is designed with the flexibility to accommodate internal combustion engines as well.

This adaptable platform will enable the new Corolla to offer a diverse range of powertrains, including hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and fully electric (EV) options. Japanese media reports suggest the vehicle will feature a new 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine specifically engineered for electrification. This engine boasts higher thermal efficiency, improved power response, and lower fuel consumption compared to its predecessors. The hybrid system is expected to reduce fuel consumption by 10-15%, while the PHEV variant aims for over 90 kilometers of electric-only range, enhancing daily usability.
