NFF denies asking FIFA president Infantino to step down

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially refuted claims that it requested FIFA President Gianni Infantino's resignation. In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the NFF clarified that such reports are "outright falsehood" and urged the public to ignore them.

This denial comes as Infantino navigates a challenging period regarding his leadership. His proposed plans to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors were reportedly aborted, leading to controversy. While Infantino has apologized for "errors" in these proposals, he has not stepped down, having secured support from senior executives in a recent meeting in Morocco.

Despite the controversy, Infantino has received backing from key football confederations, including CONMEBOL (South America) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The football associations of World Cup co-hosts Mexico and tournament runners-up Argentina have also publicly supported him. However, European teams have expressed dissatisfaction, threatening boycotts over unmet conditions.
