NFF Sacks Super Falcons Technical Crew After World Cup Qualification Failure

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has abruptly dismissed the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons, citing the senior women's national team's failure to secure an automatic ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. The NFF Executive Committee announced the decision without providing specific reasons, stating only that the crew members were asked to step down with immediate effect.

This move follows a disappointing campaign for the Super Falcons, which included a loss to Malawi in their opening match at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. Despite Malawi reaching the final, Nigeria's own tournament ended in the quarter-finals after another defeat to Cameroon. This result denied them direct qualification for the World Cup.

Further compounding their World Cup aspirations, the Super Falcons also lost a subsequent playoff match against South Africa, leaving their qualification hopes hanging by a thread and necessitating a more difficult route to the global tournament. The NFF's decision to sack the coaching staff, led by Head Coach Justin Madugu, underscores the pressure to achieve international success.
