NFS, AACMA raise GH¢300K for new fire tender

The Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has successfully secured pledges totaling GH¢300,000 to acquire a new fire tender and a fire bike for the municipality. This significant financial commitment was made following a town hall meeting and a subsequent fundraising event held at the Wesley Methodist Church in Konongo.

The event saw the attendance of various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, government officials, security agencies, assembly members, and residents. They gathered to review the Assembly's financial status and discuss ongoing development projects across sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, and drainage within the municipality.

During the fundraising segment, Municipal Fire Commander DO III Essien Joseph highlighted the increasing demand for fire and rescue services in Konongo, Odumasi, and surrounding communities. ADO I Anthony K. Barnes detailed the challenges posed by the current fire appliance, citing frequent breakdowns, its age, and a growing volume of emergency calls.

The appeal for funds garnered substantial support from attendees, resulting in GH¢300,000 being pledged on the spot. An ad-hoc committee has since been established to spearhead efforts in mobilizing additional funds to meet the full cost of the fire tender and fire bike. The acquisition of this new equipment is anticipated to significantly improve emergency response times and bolster public safety throughout the municipality.
