Nicaragua Rejects US Accusation Against Raúl Castro

Nicaragua, under the leadership of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, has unequivocally voiced its strong condemnation of the United States' recent accusation against Raúl Castro. This move by Washington, targeting the former Cuban leader for the 1996 downing of two civilian aircraft, is viewed by the Sandinista government as a "sumamente peligrosa" (extremely dangerous) act that fundamentally disrespects the principles and values enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

We consider this moment in our history of human community extremely dangerous, and pernicious for the peoples who have fought so hard for our sovereignty, dignity, and rights.

In a joint statement, Ortega and Murillo expressed profound solidarity with Cuba, emphasizing the shared struggle for sovereignty, dignity, and rights that binds their nations. They highlighted the "irrespeto" (disrespect) shown by the US, which they believe undermines the global community's aspiration for security, peace, and goodwill. Nicaragua's stance reinforces its long-standing alliance with Cuba, rooted in shared revolutionary ideals and a mutual opposition to perceived US interference in regional affairs.

The Nicaraguan leadership invoked the declaration of the Caribbean region as an "invariable zone of peace and development," underscoring their commitment to regional stability and self-determination.
