Niceair cancels all Iceland flights citing difficult operating environment

Niceair has announced the cancellation of all its scheduled flights to and from Iceland. This decision impacts the remainder of the 2026 summer schedule and the entirety of the 2026-2027 winter schedule. The airline stated it will not resume operations in Iceland until at least spring 2027.

The airline cited a challenging international operating environment as the primary reason for the cancellations. Despite continued demand for travel in many European markets, global political and economic instability continues to create significant uncertainty for airlines. Niceair will instead concentrate on expanding its European network throughout the upcoming winter.

High fuel prices, exacerbated by geopolitical instability, particularly the unresolved situation in Iran, were identified as a key factor. This has led to unusually high and unpredictable fuel costs, making long-term operational planning increasingly difficult for the airline.

Furthermore, Niceair noted that many partners are currently reluctant to commit to long-term agreements or assume additional operational risks due to the prevailing market conditions. While the airline remains committed to the idea that Akureyri deserves strong and reliable air transport, it acknowledges that sustainable operations cannot be built on expectations alone.

Niceair emphasized that a return to the Icelandic market requires stable market conditions, reliable partnerships, and a predictable economic environment. The company will not commit to returning until these fundamental conditions are met.
