Nick Reiner indicted for stabbing deaths of parents Rob and Michele Reiner, with special circumstances alleged

A grand jury has indicted Nick Reiner on charges related to the December stabbing deaths of his parents, Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer Michele Reiner. Prosecutors announced Wednesday that the indictment includes special circumstances of multiple murders and lying in wait.

Reiner, 32, pleaded not guilty to these charges in Los Angeles County Superior Court. He has been in jail without bail since his December arrest. The special circumstances alleged by prosecutors could make him eligible for the death penalty if they decide to pursue it.

Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 70, were found stabbed to death in their home in the Brentwood neighborhood. The case has been described as one of the most shocking celebrity homicide cases in Los Angeles history. The grand jury returned its indictment on July 20, replacing previous charges and allowing the case to proceed to trial without a preliminary hearing.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman expressed hope that the indictment would move the case closer to trial and justice. Reiner, the middle of the couple's three children, has reportedly acknowledged a long-standing struggle with substance abuse. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for September 15.
