NiDCOM celebrates first Black woman with Pure Mathematics PhD in S’Africa, another Nigerian

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is celebrating two accomplished Nigerian women making significant strides in their respective fields abroad. Chairman/CEO Abike Dabiri-Erewa congratulated Prof. Oghenetega Ighedo and Ugwechi Amadi, describing their achievements as a source of immense pride for Nigeria.

Professor Ighedo has made history as the first Black woman to obtain a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of South Africa. She currently serves as an Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at the same institution, where her academic and research work continues to inspire greater participation in mathematics and STEM fields.

Ugwechi Amadi has been appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at McDonald's. She has also held senior leadership roles at prominent organizations such as LIV Golf, Nike, and Boston Consulting Group.
