Nigeria Airways: Group Urges Release of Ex-Workers' Entitlements

Aviation stakeholders are intensifying pressure on the Nigerian government to settle the long-overdue entitlements of thousands of former Nigeria Airways employees. The Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI) has voiced strong condemnation over the persistent delays, characterizing the situation as a "grave injustice" to the affected workers.

ASRTI's statement specifically calls on Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo and the Ministry of Finance to expedite the release of funds owed to over 4,000 individuals. These former staff members have been awaiting their payments since the liquidation of the country's national airline, Nigeria Airways, which occurred in September 2004 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The prolonged non-payment of these entitlements represents a significant hardship for the ex-workers and their families. The ASRTI's appeal highlights the ongoing struggle for financial closure for those who served the defunct national carrier, emphasizing the need for governmental action to resolve this protracted issue.
