Nigeria Basketball President Calls for National Support Ahead of FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

Ahmad Musa Kida, president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), has issued a call for national solidarity as the senior men's national basketball team, D'Tigers, commences its FIBA Africa Basketball World Cup Qualifiers campaign. Kida implored Nigerians, including fans and corporate organizations, to rally behind the team during this critical phase of qualification. D'Tigers faces a challenging path in Group E, drawn against formidable opponents such as Cameroon, South Sudan, Cabo Verde, Tunisia, and Guinea. The team's journey begins on August 27 against regional rivals Cameroon, followed by a match against South Sudan on August 28, and concluding the opening qualifying window against Cabo Verde on August 30. Kida emphasized that the collective backing of Nigerians would serve as a vital source of motivation for the players and the technical staff as they confront some of Africa's premier basketball nations. While acknowledging the strength of opponents like Cabo Verde, against whom Nigeria has a less favorable record of one win in six meetings, Kida expressed strong confidence in the D'Tigers' capacity to compete effectively. He highlighted the team's positive historical performance against other group rivals, including three wins in four previous encounters with Cameroon and undefeated status in two prior meetings with South Sudan. The NBBF president stressed the importance of unity and unwavering support throughout the qualifying process, as D'Tigers aims to secure a favorable position for a spot in the global basketball showcase.
