Nigeria Boxing Federation Refutes False Emergency Meeting Claims

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has been compelled to issue a strong disclaimer, calling on the public and sports media to disregard any purported calls for an emergency board meeting in Abuja. This action comes in response to what the NBF describes as "malicious and misleading" publications circulating false claims about such a meeting. The federation views these actions as a deliberate attempt by "selfish individuals" to undermine the significant reforms currently being implemented by the NBF's current board.

Professor Musa Yakasai, Chairman of the NBF Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, highlighted that the committee is actively addressing this falsehood. He stressed that any information regarding the federation must originate from official NBF communication channels. The NBF General Secretary, Vivian Azimene, echoed this sentiment, condemning the spread of misinformation aimed at destabilizing the federation's efficient operational system. She assured that the NBF remains focused on its objectives and is not deterred by the actions of those seeking to cause disruption.

The ethics and disciplinary committee has already taken steps to address this falsehood. These selfish individuals have resolved to stop the ongoing reforms initiated by the current NBF board. Hence, the malicious and misleading information they are pushing to the public.

Azimene further clarified that official notices for board meetings are never disseminated through media publications. Instead, the federation utilizes its established internal communication channels to share memos with board members. She urged the public, and particularly the media, to verify any information with the NBF directly before entertaining stories that do not come from an official release. This proactive stance aims to maintain transparency and prevent the spread of damaging misinformation within the sports community.

We are not distracted by the activities of these dimwits. Notice of board meetings are not circulated via media publications. As a federation we have our official communication channel where memos are shared with the board members in the case of a meetings. So, I will urge members of the public most importantly the media to reach to the federation before entertaining any story that’s not an official release from the NBF.
