Nigeria Police Chief Steps Up Rescue Operations for Abducted Worshippers in Niger

Nigeria’s inspector-general of police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered intensified efforts to rescue worshippers abducted during terrorist attacks in Niger State’s Dekara District, in Borgu Local Government Area.

Disu visited the state to assess the security situation and ongoing operations. He conveyed condolences from the Nigeria Police Force to the state government, residents and the families of victims, while saying the safe recovery of those abducted and the arrest of the perpetrators remained the priority.

He directed the Niger State Police Command to improve coordination with other agencies and deepen engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders and local communities. Disu said effective intelligence gathering and early action depended on stronger partnerships with those groups.

Addressing officers, he called for intelligence-led and professionally coordinated operations that put victims and affected communities first. He also promised continued support from police headquarters for logistics, mobility, intelligence, training and operational capacity.

Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, representing Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, said the state would continue supporting the police and other security agencies. During the visit, Disu also met Minna Emir Umar Farouk Bahago to discuss cooperation with traditional institutions and efforts to restore peace across Niger State.

The visit came as the Christian Association of Nigeria called for tighter security at places of worship across the state. The report also said troops had dismantled a terrorist enclave and repelled attacks in Katsina, Borno and Sokoto.
