Nigeria Police investigate AIG Jimoh over VeryDarkMan's corruption claims

Nigeria's Police Force has confirmed it is investigating Assistant Inspector-General of Police Moshood Jimoh, who heads Zone 2 Command, following corruption allegations leveled by social media personality Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan.

The criminal matter referenced in public commentary was investigated and is now before a court of competent jurisdiction, following the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). As the matter is subjudice, its adjudication rests solely with the judiciary.

The Force stated that AIG Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of an internal administrative review. This comes as the criminal matter linked to the allegations is already before a court of competent jurisdiction, following advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. The police stressed that they would not litigate the case in the media or allow public campaigns to influence the judicial process.

The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved.

In parallel, the Force has also invited Otse, also known as VDM, to appear at its Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja to substantiate the claims he has made publicly. The invitation letter was formally issued on July 30, 2026. These steps, the police statement noted, reflect a standing commitment to investigate all credible allegations of misconduct, irrespective of the officer's rank or the complainant's public profile.

Separately, and in line with its internal accountability mechanisms, the Force confirms that the Assistant Inspector-General, Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has invited AIG in charge of Zone 2, AIG Moshood Jimoh, for questioning in connection with the allegations raised.

For weeks, Otse has posted a series of social media videos accusing AIG Jimoh of corruption. He alleged that police under Jimoh's supervision, during the officer's previous posting, were involved in corrupt practices. The police statement emphasized that the judicial adjudication rests solely with the judiciary and that the Force Complaint Response Unit and the Office of the Inspector-General of Police are also channels for addressing such issues.

The Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, on 30th July 2026, formally issued a letter of invitation to Mr. Otse (VeryDarkMan), inviting him to appear at its Abuja office to substantiate the claims he has made in the public domain.
