Police arrest three suspects over killing of two officers in Rivers, recover stolen rifles

The Rivers State Police Command has announced a significant breakthrough with the arrest of three suspects allegedly involved in the killing of two police officers. The officers were fatally shot on June 29, 2026, while conducting a routine stop-and-search operation within the Aluu Division. Their service AK-47 rifles were stolen during the attack.

Following a directive from the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, the Command's operational and intelligence units launched a manhunt. According to Police Public Relations Officer ASP Grace Iringe-Koko Agabe, operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) apprehended the suspects based on credible intelligence and sustained tactical operations.

Acting on the Commissioner’s directive, operatives of the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), through credible intelligence and sustained tactical operations, arrested three suspected members of the gang.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Maduabuchi Emeka, also known as "Doctor," aged 34; Chinedu Owhor, 42; and Kamachi Joe, 28. All three suspects reportedly hail from the Omoku area of Rivers State. During the operation, police recovered three AK-47 rifles and one Scorpion rifle, believed to be the weapons stolen from the deceased officers.

Agabe stated that one of the suspects has provided information linking the group to other ongoing murder investigations. The police are actively pursuing another suspect who remains at large. The Command emphasized its commitment to bringing those responsible for attacks on security personnel and other violent crimes to justice. Investigations into the case are continuing.
