Nigeria's Anti-Graft Agency Declares Presidential Investment Council Fake, Cites Forged Appointment

Nigeria's Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has officially declared the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) a sham. The commission's chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, announced on Thursday that the agency, promoted by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, is fake.

Dr. Aliyu revealed this after submitting an interim report on the investigation into the PFIPC's operations to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. The President had tasked the ICPC with investigating the controversial agency and its self-proclaimed Director-General, Adeyemi, who had alleged bribing the Chief of Staff to the President with N400 million for his appointment.

The ICPC's findings established that Adeyemi was never appointed by any government authority. Furthermore, the appointment letter he presented as Director-General was forged. The commission also discovered that Adeyemi created two other fictitious agencies besides the PFIPC, which is currently under investigation. Adeyemi is currently in detention.

"We have discovered and it has been established that Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew was never appointed by the federal government or any authority of government," Aliyu told reporters. "Then the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council... was never established by any law or executive order or other instrument of government, and the appointment letter presented by Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew was completely forged alongside similar documents used to perpetuate the illegal activities of the fake agency."
