Nigeria's APC begins electronic membership registration for 2027 elections

Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is gearing up for the 2027 general elections with a nationwide electronic membership registration drive. The exercise, set to begin on August 31, 2026, aims to create a digitized and more accessible membership database.

Existing members will need to validate their status, while new registrants can join the party through the digital platform. A key requirement for participation is a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and a minimum age of 18. The APC stated this measure will enhance the reliability and integrity of its membership records.

Party National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka emphasized the exercise's goal to improve data access for planning and management decisions, promote internal democracy, and showcase the party's commitment to innovation. This digital push is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the APC's structures and mobilize supporters across the country ahead of the crucial 2027 polls.

The use of NIN is also intended to curb multiple registrations and strengthen verification processes, addressing recurring disputes over membership figures among political parties. The APC, currently holding the presidency, has been actively engaged in reconciliation and mobilization efforts.
