Nigeria's APC uploads all 471 candidates for 2027 elections, eyes mobilization

Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully uploaded all 471 of its candidates for the 2027 general elections onto the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) nomination portal. National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda announced the milestone, stating that the party's attention will now concentrate on mobilization and campaign strategies for a decisive electoral victory.

"I congratulate our candidates, leaders, and members of APC on the successful 100% upload of our Presidential, Vice Presidential, Senate, and House of Representatives candidates on the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal ICNP," Yilwatda declared in a tweet. "With this milestone achieved, our focus now shifts to mobilization and preparations for a successful campaign and decisive victory at the polls."

The APC's completion of its candidate submissions came just as INEC extended the deadline for parties to upload their lists. The electoral commission moved the cut-off date from July 11, 2026, to midnight on July 14, 2026, after receiving appeals from political parties struggling to meet the initial timeline. INEC stated the extension demonstrates its commitment to inclusivity while operating within legal boundaries.

Despite the deadline extension, the APC had already submitted the nomination forms for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima before the original deadline. This submission concluded speculation regarding the vice-presidential choice and allowed for the upload of their details. Yilwatda had previously expressed confidence in President Tinubu's electoral prospects, citing a base of over 12 million party members.
