Nigeria's First Lady disburses N819 million to widows of fallen security personnel

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has initiated a significant financial support program through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), disbursing N819 million to 1,638 widows of fallen military and police personnel.

Today, we are providing financial support of N500,000 each to 1,638 widows of our fallen heroes, covering those who have lost their husbands in line of duty since the assumption of office of Mr. President.

The empowerment program, in its second edition, provided each widow with N500,000. This sum is intended to help them either establish a new business or reinvest in an existing one, thereby supporting their families and rebuilding their livelihoods. The funds were disbursed to families of security personnel who have lost their husbands in the line of duty since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

This will enable you to recapitalise an existing business or start a business of your choice to care for your families.

During the symbolic presentation in Abuja, Senator Tinubu explained that N657.5 million was allocated to 1,315 widows of fallen military personnel, while N161.5 million was designated for 323 widows of deceased police officers. She assured the beneficiaries that their bank accounts were already being credited, with the event serving as a formal announcement.

She further emphasized that the initiative honors the sacrifices of the personnel who died protecting the nation and provides concrete support for the women and children they left behind. She acknowledged the unique challenges faced by spouses of military and police personnel, recognizing the uncertainty and risks inherent in their loved ones' service.
