Nigeria’s progress impossible without leadership continuity – Bakare

Pastor Tunde Bakare, Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, has emphasized that Nigeria's progress is impossible without leadership continuity and a commitment to building enduring institutions. Speaking at the public presentation of his three-volume work, "Strategic Intervention in Governance," Bakare argued that recurring national crises cannot be resolved by simply replacing leaders. Sustainable nation-building, he asserted, requires leaders who confront difficult problems and establish systems that outlast their tenures.

Bakare's publication compiles 104 speeches delivered between 2008 and 2025, spanning five presidential administrations. The collection addresses his interventions on governance, constitutional reform, corruption, leadership, public accountability, and national development. The event in Lagos drew prominent figures from various sectors, including former governors Victor Attah, Kayode Fayemi, and Segun Osoba, as well as former Minister of Health Olorunnimbe Mamora, Pastor Jimi Odukoya, activist Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, Prof. Akin Oyebode, and University of Lagos Vice-Chancellor Prof. Folasade Ogunshola.

Reviewer Elder Olabode Adekanye described the three volumes as a chronicle of Bakare's 18-year public engagement, evolving from confronting government failures to advocating for institutional solutions. Adekanye characterized the collection as "the voice that challenged a nation," urging readers to view it not just as an archive but as a sustained argument on leadership and citizenship responsibilities. The books challenge Nigerians to move beyond diagnosing problems to actively solving them.

The speeches, delivered across diverse platforms including churches, universities, press conferences, and political gatherings, demonstrate Bakare's consistent focus on governance issues beyond his pastoral role. Adekanye highlighted the significance of this breadth, underscoring the central argument for leadership accountability and proactive problem-solving that runs through the entire work.
