Osun 2026: Accord seeks AU, UN, EU intervention

In the last couple of months, since the beginning of electioneering in Osun State for the August 15, 2026, governorship election, there has been a steady and rising rate of politically motivated, brutal and fatal attacks on Accord members, leaders, as well as officials of the ruling class in Osun State Government and even family members of the governor.

Dele Oladeji, Secretary of the South-West Forum of the Accord and Lagos State Chairman, stated that politically motivated attacks have intensified since the election campaigns began. He claimed that Accord members, leaders, Osun State government officials, and even the governor's relatives have been targeted, resulting in fatalities, including a 14-year-old boy. Oladeji expressed alarm that the alleged perpetrators have not been brought to justice, deepening fears about the security agencies' capacity and willingness to ensure protection.

Oladeji accused the Federal Government and security agencies of inadequate responses, alleging that some named suspects remain publicly visible and are allegedly protected by armed police. The Accord leader characterized these developments as "state-aided violence, murder and intimidation," though specific case details or substantiating evidence were not provided in the statement. The party also raised concerns about the arrest of the Secretary to the Osun State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, on July 29, describing it as politically motivated and part of a broader pattern of using security agencies against political opponents.
