Nigeria's Women's Handball Team Squad Announced for IHF Nations Trophy

Nigeria's Senior Women's Handball National Team will compete in the inaugural IHF Women's Nations Trophy Africa Zone III with a squad of 16 players, as announced by Head Coach Michael Taangahar. The team is preparing for the tournament set to take place from September 2 to 6, 2026, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The squad has been undergoing intensive training for several weeks at the Indoor Sports Hall within the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Coach Taangahar has been putting the players through rigorous drills to ensure they are in top form for the competition.

As a final tune-up, the Nigerian team is scheduled to travel to Benin Republic for a series of friendly matches. This will provide a crucial opportunity to test strategies and player coordination before heading to Ouagadougou for the main event.

Nigeria's campaign kicks off on Thursday, September 3, against Ghana. They will then face the host nation, Burkina Faso, on Friday, September 4, in their second group stage match. The selected players include Bisi Oyewusi, Matthew Esther, Ahamefula Chinemerem, Sunday Hope, Ovetuo Rachael, Saaloo Daina, Audu Mercy, Emuore Enifome, Modebe Queen, Yusuf Toyin, Babatunde Taiwo, Ogbusimba Childera, Musa Sadiya, Nuhu Wuraola, Onyekwere Lucy, and Muhammad Bilkisu. Innocent Chukwuma Nwankwo will serve as Taangahar's assistant.
