Nigeria Targets 500 Million Barrels in New Oil Reserves, Cites Pipeline Security

Nigeria has embarked on a new phase of upstream petroleum development, targeting 500 million barrels in new reserves and an increase in daily production to 300,000 barrels within three years. This ambitious goal, set by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) following a recent licensing round, is considered achievable by many stakeholders, provided that oil pipelines remain protected through the operations of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL) and peace is maintained in the Niger Delta. The NUPRC reported that 143 companies submitted 200 bids for 37 out of 50 blocks during the commercial bid phase. However, reaching the production target requires more than just commitment; it necessitates sustainable oil asset protection, a robust fight against oil theft, and the preservation of peace in the Niger Delta. This includes assigning critical surveillance roles to institutions with proven expertise and dedication to curbing these issues. The Federal Government of Nigeria appointed TSSNL, led by High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, for this purpose, aiming to support the national economy in fully realizing the benefits of its oil resources. TSSNL collaborates with other security outfits to secure oil assets and ensure stability in the region. Its operations have been instrumental in safeguarding oil pipelines, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of petroleum, and transitioning Nigeria from constant loss management to a state of stability, planning, growth, and development. TSSNL's track record in mitigating oil pipeline risks has positioned it as a reliable partner in protecting Nigeria's economic backbone, significantly cutting oil theft and expanding the nation's oil production quota. As stakeholders advocate for continued collaboration with TSSNL, securing oil infrastructure remains paramount for the country's sustainable development.
