Nigeria U-12 b’ball team depart for Italy today

Team Nigeria, comprised of players from the Impact Kiddies Sports Project, has departed Lagos for Matera, Italy, to represent the nation at the 34th MiniBasket in Piazza World Under-12 International Basketball Tournament. The event is scheduled to take place from June 21 to June 28.

The journey for the young athletes has been made possible through the sponsorship of Blueworld Cosmetics Limited, the manufacturer of the VIVON brand. The company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ikenna Ekeagu, stepped in to support Team Nigeria, underscoring his commitment to youth empowerment and grassroots sports development in the country.

Officials from the Impact Kiddies Sports Project highlighted the sponsorship as a crucial boost, alleviating financial burdens associated with international competition and enabling the children to proudly represent Nigeria and Africa. They noted that Ekeagu's support signifies a strong belief in the potential of Nigerian children to achieve success on a global stage.

Mr. Ekeagu has a history of investing in young people through various initiatives. The tournament itself, organized by Pielle Matera Basket, is recognized as a premier global grassroots sporting event for children, fostering cultural exchange, inclusion, and international unity. Head of Delegation and founder of the Impact Kiddies Basketball Project, Ambassador Joel Adams, confirmed the team's thorough preparations, with selections made from numerous Lagos-based basketball academies. Team captain Oluwatimifun Adeoye expressed confidence in the squad's ability to win the trophy.
