Nigerian Army Named Africa's Best in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025

The Nigerian Army has received the prestigious title of "Africa's Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025," an accolade bestowed by African Security Watch. This recognition celebrates the army's exceptional performance, strategic leadership, and unwavering dedication in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism across Nigeria.

The award underscored the Nigerian Army’s emergence as Africa’s leading force in Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Operations (CTCOIN).

According to a statement from Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the award signifies the Nigerian Army's ascendance as a leading force in Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Operations (CTCOIN) on the continent. It reflects years of sustained, intelligence-driven operations that have demonstrably degraded terrorist networks, helped restore security to affected communities, and contributed to regional peace and stability.

This honor is a proud recognition of the extraordinary courage, professionalism, resilience and unwavering dedication of Nigerian Army officers and soldiers who continue to make immense sacrifices in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the protection of its citizens.

The award was formally presented to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja. Major General Teriworie Gagariga had previously accepted the award on behalf of the Nigerian Army during the African Security Watch Awards Ceremony held in Banjul, The Gambia. This honor further solidifies the Nigerian Army's growing reputation as a professional and highly capable institution, whose operational doctrines and best practices serve as a benchmark for armed forces throughout Africa.
