Nigerian International Simy Nwankwo set for homecoming after prolific Saudi season

Football fans in Nkpor-Agu, Anambra State, are eagerly awaiting the return of Nigerian international striker Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo, popularly known as Simy. The star forward is set to be honored with a homecoming celebration on June 21, marking the end of a highly successful season in Saudi Arabia.

The event, titled "The Homecoming," aims to celebrate Simy's achievements and offer thanksgiving for his football journey. It will commence with a Thanksgiving Mass at Holy Cross Parish, followed by an all-star novelty match at the United Primary School playing ground. The exhibition game is expected to draw notable football personalities, including former Super Eagles stars Uche Nwofor and Ogenyi Onazi, alongside emerging talents like Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi, David Nworah, and Francis Ezeh.

Simy's career trajectory is a source of inspiration, having begun in Nkpor-Agu before moving to Europe. He played for Portuguese clubs Gil Vicente and Portimonense, and Italian clubs Crotone, Salernitana, Parma, and Benevento. This past season, he was a standout performer for Al-Orobah in Saudi Arabia, finishing as the joint-top scorer in the Saudi First Division with an impressive 28 goals.

His career milestones include being the first African player to finish as top scorer in an Italian professional league, netting 20 goals for Crotone in the 2019/20 Serie B season. Simy also represented Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
