Nigerian Police Rescue Two Colombians After Dismantling Human Trafficking Ring

Nigerian police have successfully rescued two Colombian nationals who were victims of a human trafficking ring in Lagos. The operation, described as a significant step in combating transnational organized crime, also led to the dismantling of the network responsible for their captivity.

The two women, identified as María Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Ríos Mesa, were allegedly lured to Nigeria under false pretenses. Upon arrival, their travel documents were confiscated by Chinese nationals who are now fugitives from the law. The victims were held against their will until law enforcement intervened.

The rescue mission was initiated following intelligence received from Interpol's Bogotá office on August 26. Nigerian police, working with Interpol, launched an undercover operation that led them to the criminal network in Lagos. Both victims were found safe and unharmed on the same day the operation was conducted.

While the suspects managed to escape, Nigerian authorities have intensified efforts to locate and arrest all members of the trafficking group. The rescued women are currently in protective custody and receiving necessary support. The Colombian Embassy in Ghana is collaborating with Nigerian police to arrange accommodation and emergency travel documents for their safe return to Bogotá.
